1. Tulare Historical Museum

The Tulare Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving Tulare’s history through carefully crafted exhibits and displays, beginning with the region’s first inhabitants: the Yokuts Indians. Walk through beautifully furnished rooms from the city’s pioneer families, see The Manuel Toledo Collection showcasing hundreds of military memorabilia, and learn more about your family roots in the Tom Hennion Archives Room.

The museum’s Heritage Art Gallery displays artworks by local artists throughout Tulare County. In addition to the permanent historical exhibits and artworks, the museum also showcases temporary artworks, cultural exhibitions, and holiday displays.

2. Tulare County Museum

The Tulare County Museum is tucked away in a beautiful oak preserve in Mooney Grove Park. The museum exhibits a vast collection of county and state history and boasts one of the most extensive collections of Native American baskets in California. Browse through an astonishing display of pioneer-era artifacts, agricultural equipment, and aviation and military exhibits.

The museum is home to the Gun and Saddle gallery, the Sequoia and Rankin Field aviation display, and the Electric Railroad model train. The Pioneer Village has life-sized replicas of historic businesses and beautifully restored structures, including the Surprise School, the Emken House, and Visalia’s first jail.

The Tulare County Museum is at 27000 South Mooney Boulevard in Visalia, 12.4 miles from Tulare. The museum is open Thursday to Monday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. April through October. Weekend hours from November to March between noon and 4 p.m.

3. The Lindsay Historical Museum and Gallery

Learn more about the local historical, cultural, and ethnic roots at The Lindsay Historical Museum and Gallery through a collection of beautiful and colorful historical exhibits, murals, and public art. The museum’s extensive early 20th-century medical collection includes artifacts from a 1906 chemist and Lindsay’s first physician.

The museum is also home to the city’s first steam-powered harvester, an olive pitting machine, and a perfectly restored bright red 1914 American La France fire engine.
