Undoubtedly, one of the greatest things about living in Tulare, CA is the wide variety of Asian food right on your doorstep. Being situated close to the Pacific has guaranteed a steady influx of excellent chefs from the Far East, and now the area is home to some of the best sushi places you can find on the West Coast. From international classics to unique creations, here are some of our favorite sushi spots around town.
Asian Grill
For delicious sushi made using only the freshest and finest ingredients, head over to Asian Grill. The diverse sushi menu here includes all the classics and some less-common offerings too such as giant scallops and sea urchins. On top of the wide variety of sushi, you can also find other traditional Japanese dishes such as salmon teriyaki, fish katsu curry, and miso noodles, all of which taste just as they should in the Orient.
Asian Grill is a great place to sit down for a meal, but it can get busy and it’s sometimes hard to find a seat. Don’t worry though, because all of their amazing food is also available for take-out, and with the 3.6L V6 engine in the new Chevrolet Traverse LT, you can get your food back home while it’s still fresh.
Tokyo Place
Head over to Hillman Street and you’ll find this little gem of a sushi bar. Tokyo Place’s sushi menu is massive, and they also serve a great selection of other Japanese dishes such as shrimp tempura, meat gyozas, and udon noodle soup.
As long as you remember to drink responsibly, Tokyo Place also serves an interesting selection of Japanese beer and sake. However, please make sure not to drive afterward and make sure everyone is of legal drinking age.
Pokerito
Poke is a classic Hawaiian dish that was heavily influenced by Japanese cuisine. Using raw fish, just like sushi and sashimi, poke is all about mixing the fish with other ingredients to make a salad-like poke bowl; it’s basically a sashimi salad! Pokerito is the best spot in town to try this exotic, flavorsome dish, and on top of poke, they also serve a great selection of traditional Japanese sushi too.
